DIY Polymer Sugar Cookies Tutorial
Polymer Clay Sugar Cookies
If you are looking for an adorable craft to make for Christmas decorations or a Christmas gift, here are some very adorable little clay sugar cookies you can make! We made some fun Christmas sugar cookies and also some fairy cookies. Both would be a great size for a Barbie doll or little doll house figures.
Step 1
Soften the Clay and Roll Out
Soften the Clay and Roll Out
- Polymer clay starts out really stiff and hard to mold. You will want to squeeze it in your hands for a couple minutes to get it softened a bit.
- Then take your roller and roll out the clay to make it flat like a pie crust.
- We always prepare them right on the cookie sheet. That way you don't have to move them, you can just do everything right on the cookie sheet from shaping them, to cooking them, then painting them after.
Step 2
Cut out your Cookie Shapes
Cut out your Cookie Shapes
- Take your little cookie shape cutters and cut out some little hearts, circles and stars. If you don't have any of these you can buy Mini Cookie Biscuit Cutters here.
Step 3
Cook them!
It doesn't take a long time to cook these. Just pop them in the oven for 15 minutes at 275°F. Take out and let cool.
Step 4
Paint them!

Step 4
Paint them!
- If you used all one color like we did you can paint them now. Have fun and add sprinkles and frosting. If you use colored clay you can skip this step.
- When you paint them it's nice to use a toothpick to add the details such as sprinkles as they are so tiny.
- Make sure to add some glitter!
Step 5
Add Gloss
Add Gloss
Coat your cookies with a Sculpey gloss. You can use matte on the cookies and gloss on the frosting and sprinkles to give it a realistic look.
Here is a couple styles we did for fun.
Step 6
Glue to base
Glue to base
- Now it's time to glue your cookies to a base. You can leave them loose too but they are very easy to lose this way. You can use any type of glue you have on hand to do this.
Here is a couple styles we did for fun.
Christmas Sugar Cookies
We glued the Christmas sugar cookies inside a little bottle cap.
Fairy Sugar Cookies
These we glued to little craft wood pieces. We also added little fruit embellishments on these.
