DIY Polymer Clay Krampus

Make your own Krampus!
Did you think that Christmas time was all Santa Claus and candy canes? Well, in case you haven't heard, in European folklore, there is a figure who is half goat and half demon, who, during the Christmas season, punishes children who have misbehaved. I guess you could say, a creature who is the opposite of Santa. So, if your family has a sense of humor and you would like to make a Krampus, then here is a tutorial for you.

Step 1
Soften the Clay

  • Polymer clay can be quite firm when you first open the package. To soften it up a bit to make it easier to form shapes, just knead it in the palm of you hand for about five minutes.

Step 2
Make some Shapes
  • Now you can start to make the shapes. Just use your hands to shape the Krampus's face, eyes, ears, mouth, nose and horns.

Step 3
Cook Him

It does not look like this little demon guy is going to mind the fires of your over does it? So stick him on a cookie sheet and bake at 275°F, for about 20 minutes. Take out and let cool to touch.

Step 4
Paint Him

  • Now you can paint your Krampus.
  • Paint his teeth, eyes and horns whatever colors you'd like.
  • Some of you may have used different colors of clay to begin with so you can skip this step.

Step 5
Gloss Him Up

So once the paint has dried and got all the details exactly how you want them, you can do one more coat over your Krampus with a gloss sealant. We like to use Sculpey gloss.

Step 6
Add a Tongue
  • You can cut a tongue out of any fabric, felt or red paper. Glue to his mouth.
And there you go! You now have a Krampus!
An instant conversation starter!
