Fool Proof Apple Cider
Fool Proof Apple Cider
Apple Cider is a super easy fall drink! You can easily customize the flavor and size of the batch you would like to make. This recipe is for a shareable size (just under a gallon), but you can cut this recipe in half if you would just like some for yourself.
Ingredients:
- 10-12 Medium Apples (Combine sweet and tart flavors)
Sweet apples: Gala, Fuji, Golden Delicious, Honey Crisp
Tart apples: Granny Smith, Pink Lady, McIntosh
- Roughly 1 Gallon of water
- 2 Navel Oranges
- ¼- ½ cup sweetener of your choice (white sugar, honey, brown sugar, or maple syrup)
- Optional spices
- 1-2 tsp Cinnamon
- 1-2 tsp Cloves
- 1in Ginger root
- 1-2 tsp Allspice
- 1tsp Nutmeg
Step 1: Apples
Pick a good combination of tart and sweet apples to give your cider a great full flavor.
Step 2: Chop
Core and cut the apples into quarters or slices. Also peel the oranges and pull apart slices.
Step 3: Water
Place the apples and oranges into a large pot on the stove and fill the pot up with water, at least an inch or two past the slices.
Step 4: Flavor
Add your preferred flavors for your cider to the pot. Cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, & allspice are great options! If using whole cinnamon or cloves, tie them in a cheese cloth so they can easily be removed before you mash your mixture.
Step 5: Cook
Bring your pot to a boil for 1 hour. Then simmer for 2-3 hours until the apples are nice and soft and easily mashed.
Step 6: Mash
Remove the cheesecloth with spices if you have one. Using a potato masher or large spoon to mash the apples and oranges together.
Step 7: Cider time
Run your mashed apples and oranges through a fine strainer or cheesecloth into a pitcher or clean pot, to remove the pulp. You can repeat this step if needed. You can save the pulp for another recipe or discard it.
Step 8: Enjoy
Drink your cider warm with an apple or orange slice garnish and cinnamon stick. Or chill your cider with ice or in the fridge.
Shelf Life: Up to 5 days in the fridge or 3 months in the freeze.
